In Memory of Joan I. "Shorty" Newman

Born on August 13, 1939, in Humbolt County, Iowa, Joan I. “Shorty” Newman was the daughter of Loren H. and Electa L. (Greene) Stoebe. She graduated high school in Cario, Missouri, with the class of 1958. After graduation Shorty worked for a telephone company in Humbolt, IA.

Baptized into the Baptist faith as a child in Missouri, Shorty enjoyed attending church regularly with her sisters. When she relocated to Iowa, Shorty continued to be a faithful servant to her Lord. You would often find her reading her Bible, attending church when she was able, or watching the United Methodist Church of Odebolt, Iowa, Facebook broadcast. She was a devoted Christian and will be remembered for her unwavering faith.

On April 28, 1981, Shorty married Dale Newman. The couple trucked together for 20 years hauling for Mau Trucking, Hewitt Trucking, and Godbersen Smith Construction Company.

Shorty loved playing cards, traveling, racing her car around town, time with family around the holidays, and summer gatherings in her drive way. Shorty was a true gem and loved dearly by her family and friends.

Survivors include six children and their spouses: Tonya (Dana) Dupre of Odebolt, IA, Jill (Jim) Sorensen of Odebolt, IA, Dale “D.J.” (Tracey) Newman of Odebolt, IA, Tony (Mike) Lindner of Odebolt, IA, Jackie (Craig) Marron of Odebolt, IA and Kristina Dawson of Des Moines, IA; 13 grandchildren: Adam, Alex, Tyler, Cody, Britney, Kelli, Daniel, Jeremia, Jeff, Cheyanne, Tiffany, Austin, and Ashley; 20 great-grandchildren; brother Jerry (Sue) Stoebe of Huntsville, MO; brother-in-law Dean Newman of Alta, IA; sisters-in-law Phyllis Newman and Mary Newman both of Ida Grove, IA; extended family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Loren H. Stoebe and Electa L. (Stoebe) Roberts; husband Dale Newman; sisters Letha (Bob) Waller, Sharon Kyle, and Judy Duckworth; brother Donald Stoebe; grandson Max Eden; sister-in-law Lois Newman; brothers-in-law Darrell Newman and Dwight Newman.
