Nathan Jeremy Horstman, age 42, of Battle Creek, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in rural Battle Creek, doing what he loved.

The son of Reggie and Lorna (Maguire) Horstman, Nathan was born on September 6, 1983, in Ida Grove, IA. He was raised in rural Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek-Ida Grove High School as part of the Class of 2003.

Nathan’s love for farming started at a young age when helping his father. His career in agriculture started at Diagonal Pork, where he advanced to management. He farmed throughout his life, working as a hired hand for several local farmers, most recently with Roeder Farms.

Nathan had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, backcountry camping, skiing, snorkeling, and traveling. Even though Nathan never one to sit still, he was never too busy to lend a helping hand or an ear. He also took pride in gardening and canning his harvest. On the rare occasions he slowed down, Nathan could be found gaming or enjoying time with his pets. Nathan was a thoughtful neighbor and landlord who looked out for those around him and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Above all, he cherished time with his family, especially gathering around campfires at the family pond. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Bozo” by his beloved nephews, whom he adored.

Nathan was a man of strong faith who held a deep love for God. His life, though meaningful and full, was cut far too short, leaving a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the impact he made during his time here.

Left to cherish his memory include his mother, Lorna Maguire (partner David Wright) of Sioux City, IA; sisters Regina (Robert) Mosley of Ida Grove, IA and Jessica (Justin) Reinard of Denver, CO; nephews, Eden and Ethan Mosley; grandmother, Opal Maguire of Sioux City, IA; stepmother, Kelley Horstman of Ida Grove, IA; significant other, Sarah Klemesrud of Mason City, IA; stepsiblings, Holly (Brent) Paulsen of Slater, IA, Jonathan Cotton of Urbandale, IA and Megan (Jason) Dudley of Cabot, AR; aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reggie Horstman; grandparents, Fred and Lorraine Horstman, and Clair Maguire.

“Nathan gone to soon. They have a saying "Only the good die young". Heaven gained one remarkable young man. He had at I'm up to something grin and a heart so big. He never had a unkind word to say when he would have to wait hours in a semi line at the elevator to dump. He would just smile, wave at me and say thank you and leave the scale laughing and telling me on his phone " on to the other line to wait". Never did he get mad. I will miss you my friend and this fall won't be same. Rest know knowing you touch many hearts ??”
