Grover Senhen, son of August and Clara (Hamann) Senhen, was born on March 28, 1941, in Arthur, Iowa. He grew up on the farm south of Ida Grove, Iowa and received his education through the Ida County School District.

From an early age, Grover developed a deep appreciation for the land that would shape the course of his life. In his younger years, he worked as a masonry and in construction, but farming remained his true calling. At the age of 21, he began farming and dedicated himself to the work he loved for many years.

In 1963, Grover was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably until 1964. He was later called to active duty again from 1968 to 1969, after which he was honorably discharged. His service reflected the same quiet dedication and strong work ethic that defined his life.

A true steward of the land, Grover continued farming throughout his life and often said that the best sound in the world was listening to the corn grow at night. He found joy in simple pleasures and meaningful projects, including restoring his beloved M tractor and spending countless hours tinkering and fixing things. Each year, he planted a sweet corn patch, and passersby could often hear a radio playing nearby claiming the noise helped keep the raccoons away.

Grover treasured his role as an uncle and shared a particularly special and unique bond with his beloved niece, Patsy. He spoke of her often and lovingly carried her memory after her passing at a younger age.

Grover will be remembered for his steadfast love of farming, his hardworking spirit, his quiet humor, and the deep care he held for those closest to him.

Survivors include his soulmate of 15 years, Rita Oyler of Ida Grove, IA; daughter, April (Steve) Wilcox of Ida Grove, IA; grandchildren: Conner Enright, Blaise Wilcox, and Jade Wilcox; brothers, Thomas (Marge) Senhen of Ida Grove, IA and Larry (special friend Sandy) of Winterset, IA; extended family and friends.

“I’m sad to hear about the passing of Grover. I have very fond memories of growing up on the farm. I believe it shaped me into the person I am today. He taught me how to mow the lawn on the farm, drive a snowmobile, and allowed me to sit on his lap and drive the tractor during crop season. May he rest in peace and know he made a huge impact on me as well as many others and he will always be remembered.”
