Dorothy A. Dreessen, age 101 of Wall Lake, Iowa died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.

Dorothy was born on August 27, 1913, in Fairfax, Iowa, to Joseph Pachta, III and Mary (Barta) Pachta.  She moved with her family to a farm near Boyer, Iowa as a young child.  She attended Stockholm No. 6 School in Crawford County.  At the age of 12 she began working for a family taking care of the children and the household.  She met the love of her life while working in the grocery store in Boyer, Iowa.

On November 8, 1936 she was united in marriage to Alfred W. Dreessen in Boyer.  They farmed in the Boyer and Wall Lake area until they retired and moved to Wall Lake in 1970.

Dorothy enjoyed crafts of all kinds and spent many years decorating cakes for all occasions.  She also loved to sew, and spent countless hours knitting and crocheting.  Dorothy also enjoyed dancing, bowling and playing cards and was a member of many card clubs through the years.  Shortly after her 100th birthday she became a resident of Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake where she enjoyed being around many friends and playing bingo. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Wall Lake and served as a Deacon and also served on the committee that built the new church.

She is survived by two sons, William and his wife, Susan of Odebolt, Iowa and Robert and his wife, Norene of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren Debra Wagner, Tamara (Francis) Riedell, Brenda (Bill) Behling, Deidre (Larry) Hurlburt, Michelle (Bob) Goodvin and David (Karen) Dreessen; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Kohorst of Carroll, Iowa; three sister-in-laws Darlene Dreessen of Wall Lake, Dorothy Hollander of Phoenix, Arizona and Donna Miller and brother-in-law Dr. Ralph Alter, both of Coffeeville, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, her parents, parents-in-law, her brother, William Pachta, her sister, Lillian Aldag and one great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank the entire Twilight Acres Nursing Home community for the caring love and support given to Dorothy while she was a resident of the facility and a special thank you to Stewart Memorial Hospital and Hospice for the care and compassion they provided to her during her illness.

“My deepest sympathy to the family. I was fortunate to have seen Dorothy a couple of years ago at Rosemary's when visiting with my daughter, Kathy Stipe. I have fond memories of the times Dorothy and her sisters would visit the Barta family farm for special occasions. My prayers are with you.”

“This is Kathy Stipe, passing a message on from my mom, Dorothy Barta. She is keeping you all in her prayers. She has very fond memories of visiting your mom on the farm. Our family stayed there when we were moving from Albert Lea, MN to Omaha. The five of us kids were from ages 6 years to just 1 year old. It was a good place to rest and relax. Mom and I and Rosemary were able to visit Dorothy in Wall Lake maybe two years ago. I am sure we went downtown for lunch and pie! It is another good memory!

“Bill, Bob Dreessen and families,
I was so sad to hear of your Mom's death. She will be deeply missed.
Thinking of each and everyone of you at this time.
I wish I could be at your Mom's funeral, but at this present time I'm still looking for a vehicle to purchase so I have something to drive.. I believe Carolyn told you black ice was not too good to me.
My deepest Sympathy,.

“Bob, Bill and families, I was saddened to hear of Dorothys passing. What a wonderful life she had and what an inspiration she was. I have many fond memories of visits from all members of your family and all the card games. I know she looked forward to the trips from Mom and Dad just as they did. I am sorry that I can't be at the service but know that I will keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for letting us know and take care. Love and my sympathy to you all.”
