In Memory of Wayne Fey
Wayne A. Fey, age 89, of Battle Creek, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Willow Dale Wellness Village of Battle Creek, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Randy D. Cormeny will officiate. Committal Services following in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa; with Military Rites by Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion of Battle Creek, IA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Wayne A. Fey the son of Carl and Florence (Gaffey) Fey was born on December 15, 1927, in Moville, Iowa. Wayne grew up helping on the farm. He lived in Moville for part of his childhood until the family relocated to Galva and then Schaller, IA where the family farmed.
Wayne was drafted into the United States Army on March 18, 1946. He was stationed overseas in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Wayne was honorably discharged on September 26, 1947.
Wayne met Lorraine Vogler and the couple were married on July 3, 1948, in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple made their home in Battle Creek, Iowa and were blessed with two children, Gaylin and Susan.
Wayne worked for the Allis Chalmers Tractor Dealership in Battle Creek. He would later go to work for Hultgren Implement in Ida Grove, IA, as a shop foreman for 30 plus years before retiring.
Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He took pleasure in gardening, hunting (in his younger years), fishing, and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Wayne was a faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, and belonged to the Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the Battle Creek American Legion.
Left to cherish his memory are two children, Gaylin (Barbara) Fey of Chaska, Minnesota, Susan (Larry) Grieme of Schaller, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jodi Engstrom, Kent (Sherrie) Grieme, Evan (Jamie) Grieme, Cindy (Brent) Heller, Holly Fey; eight great-grandchildren; sister Palma Campbell of Arkansas; and extended family and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lorraine Fey; brothers Gilbert (Margaret) Fey and Donald Fey; and brother-in-law Mike Campbell.
