Christopher “Chris” Michael Harris, the son of Robert and Linda (Thomas) Harris, was born on October 28, 1974, in Fairmont, MN. The family moved to Iowa and lived briefly in Laurens, before making their home in Alta, IA. Chris received his education at Alta High School graduating with the class of 1993. After high school he attended Universal Technical Institute in Omaha, NE, graduating with a degree in Graphic Art.

In 1999 Chris moved to Georgia where he was employed in various jobs in the sales and graphic design industry. On July 6, 2002, Chris was united in marriage to Jody Kollbaum in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Galva, IA. The couple made their home in Georgia and were blessed with two sons: Peyton and Preston. In 2008 the family moved to Odebolt, IA, where Chris was employed as a shift leader at Flint Hills Resources in Arthur, IA, for 10 years. He then went on to work at Hubbard Feeds in Storm Lake, IA and most recently was employed as a shift leader at VT Industries in Holstein, IA.

Chris loved spending time with his sons. He especially enjoyed watching them play football and soccer. They also restored a Farmall H tractor together which he was very proud of. Chris enjoyed fishing, going for drives around the lake, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes, and watching Star Trek. Chris always needed to keep himself busy. He could be found fixing things around the house or spending time with his father or brother helping them with yardwork, gardening or building things. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Jody Harris and their sons Peyton and Preston Harris of Odebolt, IA; his father Robert Harris of Alta, IA; siblings Colin Harris of Fort Dodge, IA, Phillip (Elis) Binder of Woodside, NY and Cari (Brad) Cawley of Hartford, SD; in-laws Verdene (Linda) Kollbaum of Ida Grove, IA; brothers-in-laws Jerone Kollbaum (special friend Teri Freeman) of Buchanan, GA, Jason Kollbaum (special friend Barb Kesil) of Hamilton, NJ and Jeff (Kristin) Kollbaum of Marcus, IA; 5 nieces and 2 nephews; family friend Judy Henderson; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Harris; multiple beloved grandparents and extended family; and family friend Travis Henderson.

“Thinking about you and all the fun we used to have on the 4th of July. Life in this home isn't he same without you here. I wish you could have seen Peyton graduate & also see what a great driver Preston has become. You would be so proud of them, they miss you dearly. It doesn't seem fair you were taken away from them so early in their lives. I never imagined I'd have to "try" & accomplish both the man & woman duties, it's so overwhelming in many ways without you here. I realize now how much you contributed & wish I thanked you more often. July 6th would've been our 18 yr Anniversary. That date for me has been altered in many ways. So many questions & words never spoken. I think often if I had 1 min to talk to you again ~ what would I say? Or would I just ask for a hug? Probably I'd ask you for parenting advice & ask you to talk to our boys. Tell them to proceed as a family & not be afraid to go about life with you not here. It really hurts me to see their pain displayed in different ways. I feel so lost trying to heal their void. Can't believe your dad is already in heaven with you. Ask God to keep Preston safe during his heart surgery, that's going to be a hard day being alone & worried as can be.
xoxo Your wife. ”

“As the oldest of us cousins, Chris was always the one we looked up to. Always the teacher and facilitator of fun. I took many of my queues from him when I was fortunate to spend some good extended time with him in Alta one summer. I went into graphics in part because of him. He was a very fun, well mannered nice human being. If the world had more like Chris, it would be quite a wonderful place. Words cannot express the heartbreak his wife and boys are feeling. I will truly miss him, and regret not getting together more often.”

““The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not 'get over' the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to.” C.S. Lewis
Praying for God’s hope, peace, love, comfort, and strength to always guide you. God is with you. ”
