In Memory of Terry A. Rupert

Terry A. Rupert, age 84, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at the Shady Oaks Care Center of Lake City, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Pastor Luann Benge will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa.

    Terry Arthur Rupert was born on April 21, 1937, in Logan Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Imogen (Walker) Rupert. He was very active in school activities especially football and FFA. He enjoyed showing cattle as a Logan Hotshot at the county fair.

    Terry attended country school through sixth grade and then graduated from Ida Grove High School where he was chosen as homecoming king in 1955. After graduation he stayed on the farm to help his mom with the farming.

    On October 2, 1960, he married Janice Ann Leonard in the Holstein United Methodist Church. With the sale of the family farm in 1963, he and Jan moved to Ida Grove, Iowa, where he held many jobs. Terry managed Cropmate Fertilizer before purchasing his own business, Rupert Oil. After the sale of Rupert Oil, he became bus superintendent for the Battle Creek-Ida Grove CSD and drove for many sporting events. His most recent employment was for Gomaco as a driver.

    Terry was a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge No. 471 A.F. & A.M. of Holstein, Iowa. He was also a member of the Sioux City Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., U.S.A, Abu Beker Shrine Temple Sioux City, and in his youth the Army National Guard. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove. Terry had many hobbies which included golfing with Jan and friends, volunteering for the Ida Grove Fire Department, and playing Santa Claus for the kids during the holidays.

    Left to cherish his memory include his two children Terri Ann (Mark) Grell of Las Vegas, NV and Todd Arthur (Susan) Rupert of Pahrump, NV; grandchildren: Aric, Alan (Bethany) and Ann Grell, A.J. (Lauren), Benjamin (Cassandra), Zachary, Dalton, Spenser and Blake Rupert; great-grandchildren: Piper Grell, Logan and Alexis Rupert; sister Judy (Everett) Wunschel of Arthur, IA; brother James (Della) Rupert of Lake View, IA; in-laws Judy (Don) Hansen, Sandra Leonard and Roger Schmidt. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Rupert; his parents Clifford and Imogen Rupert; in-laws Luverne and Mildred Leonard; sister-in-law Carol Jean Schmidt; and brother-in-law Bud Leonard.
