Carl Ulshafer, Jr. was born on November 20, 1938, to Henni (Ahrendsen) and Carl Ulshafer, Sr. at the Hartley Memorial Hospital in Battle Creek, Iowa. Growing up on a farm with a loving family brought many happy memories and life lessons of hard work and the simple things in life. Carl attended Maple Township Country School through 6th grade walking a half-mile each morning. He then attended the Battle Creek Community School District graduating with the class of 1956. While in high school, Carl worked for several local farmers in the area.
Along with going to school at Iowa State, Carl began working for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove, Iowa, at age19. He started in the drafting department and retired at age 50 as Vice President-General Manager.
In 1959 Carl married Nancy Powers and they were the parents of Terri Lynn. On March 4, 1989, Carl married the love of his life, Dawn (Hedstrom) Lindberg and added Shane Rodney and Rory Everett to the family.
In March of 1990, Carl enjoyed starting a new venture with the incorporation of Iowa Manufacturing in Battle Creek. He applied for and received a patent on his sawhorse invention. A few years later a second patent was awarded to him which allowed for clamping of a miter saw to the sawhorse creating a new product in the miter saw stand. All the products were under the StableMate brand. He thoroughly loved working alongside all his employees, vendors, and reps.
Carl received much satisfaction in life and had many wonderful memories of the people he met from all over the country and in all walks of life, whether through business or his personal life. He trusted in Jesus as his personal Savior and attended the Arthur Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa, as well as the First Southern Baptist Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 33 years, Dawn Ulshafer of Ida Grove, IA; children Terri (Randy) Beckley of Wenatchee, WA, Shane (Tiffany) Lindberg of Ida Grove, IA and Rory (Lyndsay) Lindberg of Ida Grove, IA; grandchildren Brian Beckley, Hannah Lindberg, Treyten Kolar, Brysen Kolar, Jenessa Kolar, Marley Lindberg and Bailey Lindberg; sister Lucille Mason of Ida Grove, IA; and a host of extended family and friends.
