Rodney “Pickle” N. Peekenschneider, age 63, of Ida Grove, Iowa (formerly of Lake Park, Iowa) passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at his residence of Ida Grove, Iowa, after a hard-fought four-year battle with cancer. 

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Rodney “Pickle” Nelson Peekenschneider, the son of Doris (Knudsen) and Marvin Peekenschneider, was born on June 30, 1958, in Cherokee, Iowa. Rodney grew up in Aurelia, Iowa and received his education from Aurelia High School graduating with the class of 1978. While in high school, Rodney began working the carnival for Baumann Shows. After graduating, Rodney continued to work for the carnival. 

On October 31, 1980, Rodney was united in marriage to Bonnie Fisher in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Aurelia. The couple was blessed with a son, Tyler. Rodney worked for IBP Cold Storage in Storm Lake, Iowa, for a number of years. In 1996 the family moved to Lake Park, Iowa, where Rodney was employed with Northern Iowa Die Casting until his retirement. In 2019 Rodney and Bonnie moved to Ida Grove, Iowa, to be closer to family. 

Rodney was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. He was a youth soccer coach for 9 years, enjoyed throwing darts, and loved spending time outdoors watching for eagles and hawks. He always had a pair of binoculars in his vehicle in case he spotted one flying. Rodney and Bonnie especially enjoyed celebrating Halloween, which was also their anniversary date. They dressed up every year and hosted haunted houses for their friends and family to enjoy. Rodney treasured time spent with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 41 years, Bonnie Peekenschneider, of Ida Grove, IA; son Tyler Peekenschneider of Cedar Falls, IA; sisters Vicki (Corry) Gorden of Ida Grove, IA, Heidi Peekenschneider of Cherokee, IA, Tia (Jeff) McKenzie of Aurelia, IA; sister-in-law Virginia Dinwiddie of Montrose, IA; brother-in-law Alan Fisher of Clear Lake, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Doris and Marvin Peekenschneider; sisters Mary Keleher and JoAnne Peekenschneider; parents-in-law Alvina and Gerald Fisher.
