Gleneva Grace Lorenzen, the daughter of Glenn and Grace (Nippert) Allen, was welcomed into the world on September 7, 1936, in Galva, Iowa. She grew up in the Galva area and as a child earned the nickname “Red” due to her beautiful auburn hair.  Gleneva graduated from Galva High School with the class of 1954 and furthered her education at the University of Nebraska School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, where she obtained her degree in Registered Nursing.

On November 8, 1958, Gleneva married the love of her life, Marc Eldon Lorenzen, in the United Methodist Church in Galva. The couple settled on a farm in the Arthur, Iowa, area raising their children: Ron, Bob, Jan, and Joyce. The couple have resided and shared a life on the farm for the last 63 years.

Gleneva’s hobbies included gardening, canning, swimming, sewing, and quilting. She adored all of God’s creatures but especially riding horses. Gleneva was a faithful member of the Silver Creek United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and volunteered for UNICEF.

Throughout her life, Gleneva helped on the farm and worked at the local Horn Memorial Hospital as a relief nurse. With a heart of gold and a soft spot for children, Gleneva treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending all of their school activities. Gleneva loved sports and could be heard cheering on her alma mater Nebraska, “Go Big Red”.

Gleneva will be fondly remembered for saying “Don’t do anything, I wouldn’t do”. She was a friend to everyone and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Marc Lorenzen of Arthur, IA; children: Ronald Lorenzen of Arthur, IA, Robert (Wendy) Lorenzen of Ida Grove, IA, Joyce (Jay) Rasmussen of Orient, IA and Janice (Paul) Jakopin of Marshfield, WI; seven grandchildren: Sara (Joe) Tucker, Scott (Courtney) Lorenzen, Riley Rasmussen, Jordan Rasmussen, Keri Rasmussen, Alec Jakopin, and Jess Jakopin; six great-grandchildren: Libby Tucker, Broly Tucker, Trey Lorenzen, Tessa Lorenzen, Tatum Lorenzen, and Tamryn Lorenzen; sister Mary Stille of Schaller, IA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

“I have loved this lady since I first met her many, many years ago. She was a gem in my life and whenever we would meet, she made you feel like you were the only person in the world she wanted to see that day. I will miss her. My love and prayers go out to her beloved family, Mark and her children and their families. You all truly made her world go around. God bless and keep you all as you go on.”

“I could tell countless memories about the old farmhouse, the new (50+ yr old) farmhouse, of car pooling, the green station wagon, class room holiday parties and room mother, sleepovers, drinking my milk, facing fears and learning how to swim. Gleneva was a "Mom" of Moms. She loved her children and welcomed all of their friends into her home. Gleneva gave direction, set expectations, let you see her frustration when she had to and kept us all in line, but most of all never gave up on anyone. I am certain that all of us that Gleneva allowed into her family have all become better people today because of her loving guidance. "Thank you" could not have been said enough times to have paid Gleneva for all that she had done. My heart is broken for Marc, Ron, Bob, Jan and Joyce, and all of their families. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
